About Andrew Turnbull and South Coast Vision
Hello and welcome to South Coast Vision.

My name is Andrew Turnbull and I am a Consultant Eye Surgeon and Visiting Professor specialising in laser vision correction, cataract and lens replacement surgery, anterior segment surgery including iris reconstruction and pterygium surgery, as well as comprehensive medical eye care including blepharitis and dry eye disease.

I was appointed as an NHS Consultant in Bournemouth since 2018, where I am now the Clinical Lead for Cataract Surgery as well as College Tutor for ophthalmic surgical trainees. I established my private practice South Coast Vision in 2020 to provide high quality, personalised vision correction surgery and eye care across Hampshire, Dorset and the surrounding areas.

After training for 14 years in medicine, surgery and general ophthalmology in the Wessex region, I then spent time in London, Australia, India, Canada and the USA acquiring advanced specialist skills in complex cataract and corneal surgery, iris reconstruction and laser vision correction. By spending time learning with international experts recognised as some of the best in their field (Graham Barrett, Sri Ganesh, Sheetal Brar, Dan Reinstein, Rob Morris, Ike Ahmed, Mike Snyder and Bobby Osher, among others) , I can now bring this expertise to the South Coast where I have access to the latest, state-of-the-art laser and lens technology.

In 2023, I was honoured to be invited to become a Fellow of the World College of Refractive Surgery and Vision Sciences. I am a Visiting Professor for Ulster University's Postgraduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery and a Council Member of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (UKISCRS).

A robust, evidence-based approach forms the backbone of my practice. I keep up to date with the latest developments in my field and will only offer procedures or devices once I am completely satisfied that they offer the very best for my patients. My research interests focus on new lens technology and the advanced application and refinement of lens calculation formulae and astigmatism correction, with the goal of continually improving patient outcomes.

Having completed two Corneal, Cataract and Refractive Fellowships in the UK and Australia, I have the advanced skills and expertise to manage a wide range of medical and surgical problems with the front of the eye. My private surgical practice is dedicated to refractive cataract and lens surgery, laser vision correction, iris reconstruction and pterygium surgery, as the intricacy of these subjects deserves a great deal of time, energy and attention to detail. In the event that your problem requires more than just my expertise, I will happily recommend other trusted colleagues either locally or internationally. We will then work together to achieve the very best outcome for you.

I am available regularly to consult privately at Nuffield Health Bournemouth Hospital and via Private Health University Hospitals Dorset (the private wing of the Royal Bournemouth Hospital). Laser vision correction surgery is performed at Nuffield Health Wessex Hospital, but all consultations are undertaken in Bournemouth.
I am very happy to see patients on the NHS with a referral from your GP, but I cannot guarantee that all aspects of your care will be provided by me personally.
