About Andrew Turnbull and South Coast Vision
Hello and welcome to South Coast Vision.
My name is Andrew Turnbull and I am a Consultant Eye Surgeon specialising in laser vision correction, cataract and lens replacement surgery, anterior segment surgery including iris reconstruction and pterygium surgery, as well as comprehensive medical eye care including dry eye disease.
I have been an NHS Consultant in Bournemouth since 2018, where I am now the Clinical Lead for Cataract Surgery. I established South Coast Vision in 2020 to provide high quality, personalised vision correction surgery and eye care across Hampshire, Dorset and the surrounding areas.
After training for 14 years in medicine, surgery and general ophthalmology in the Wessex region, I then spent time in London, Australia, India, Canada and the USA acquiring advanced specialist skills in complex cataract and corneal surgery, iris reconstruction and laser vision correction. By spending time learning with international experts recognised as some of the best in their field (Graham Barrett, Sri Ganesh, Sheetal Brar, Dan Reinstein, Ike Ahmed, Mike Snyder and Bobby Osher, among others) , I can now bring this expertise to the South Coast where I have access to the latest, state-of-the-art laser and lens technology.
A robust, evidence-based approach forms the backbone of my practice. I keep up to date with the latest developments in my field and will only offer procedures or devices once I am completely satisfied that they offer the very best for my patients. My current research interests focus on the advanced application and refinement of lens calculation formulae and astigmatism correction, with the goal of continually improving patient outcomes.
Having completed two Corneal, Cataract and Refractive Fellowships in the UK and Australia, I have the advanced skills and expertise to manage a wide range of medical and surgical problems with the front of the eye. My surgical practice is dedicated to refractive cataract and lens surgery, laser vision correction, iris reconstruction and pterygium surgery, as the intricacy of these subjects deserves a great deal of time, energy and attention to detail. In the event that your problem requires more than just my expertise, I will happily recommend other trusted colleagues either locally or internationally. We will then work together to achieve the very best outcome for you.
I live on the outskirts of the New Forest with my beautiful, long-suffering wife (a cardiology nurse) and two young boys. With my family hailing from the North East originally, I continue to bravely support Newcastle United. When I used to have spare time, I enjoyed long walks in the countryside, occasionally ruining them by playing golf. At school I was in a failing rock band, and to this day I still play guitar and piano when nobody’s listening.
I am available regularly to consult privately at Optegra Eye Hospital Hampshire and Bournemouth Private Clinic. Video or telephone consultations can also be arranged at a time to suit you. I am very happy to see patients on the NHS with a referral from your GP, but unfortunately I cannot guarantee that all aspects of your care will be provided by me personally.
